f150 5.4 engine problem

we have a 1997 f150 4x4 with a 5.4. we are experiencing coolant spraying out of the #1 cylinder when the spark plug is removed. what are the common causes of this?

head gasket or cracked head.

Worst Case: cracked cylinder wall. You'll know when you get the head off.
