Default 5.4 3v problems

hey guys,

Have a 2005 with a 5.4 and shop says motor is done. Low compression on 2-8 guy says has burnt exhaust valves and would have killed the piston?. truck barely runs and sound like a air compressor out the exhaust.

question would be is it worth doing the top end if its just a valve?

Honestly, If that is the issue I wouldn't rebuild the top end. Once you take into account parts, labor, and time, you probably won't be too far from a full engine swap. At least if you did the whole engine, You would have the piece of mind knowing that the rebuilt engine has all the upgraded parts that Ford fixed late in 2008 as well as all seals and rings would be fresh and you could put your own miles on it. Also these engines are known for blowing spark plugs out of the cylinder head and breaking bolts on the exhaust manifold both of which would cause that sound you are describing. Plugs are an easy fix and the manifold isn't too terrible.
