2012 Ecoboost Engine/Transmission Problem Fix
#31
I just had this exact same issue on my 2011 screw for the first time at 90k miles. The bummer is that despite my truck being manufactured in the date range for the specified recall, and at the Dearborn plant, Ford says that the specific part that was used in my truck is not susceptible to the issue and isn't eligible for replacement under the recall. They said I can get the work done at my dealership and save my receipts so that if the recall is expanded to cover my truck, I can get my money back. It's a lot of cash though to fork out and it's frustrating since this is obviously the same issue.
Here's a link to the recall notice in case anyone is interested. https://www.cars.com/recalls/ford-f150-2011/ It's 161S9, a little ways down the page.

I haven't taken it in yet. It's only done it the one time so far, and I pulled the battery which fixed it temporarily but it also reset all of the codes. Right now, there is no evidence of it happening, and I don't want to take it in like that and risk either getting a run around from the service center or have the fix done but not have it valid for reimbursement if the recall covers it later on. When I talked to the service tech on the phone, he estimated it would be $130 for the diagnostic fee, ~ 4 hours of labor @$110 per hour, and then parts, so I was expecting ~$1000.
Did you check to see if the recall covers your vehicle or not?

Yeah I hear ya... I was on the fence for a while trying to decide what to do. Fortunately for me, I usually only drive a max of 50 on side roads on the way to and from work. It would be really bad if it happens on the highway going 70-80 but we've been using the wife's car more now. Hopefully Ford gets the recall expanded soon or I have another incident that I can take it to the dealer and show them.

175K EcoBoost, original transmission
She’s ticking away at about 174K miles, and all is pretty darn good. Well, at 175K that’s old news. Something ain’t right in paradise...
At about 165K, Ford dealer flushed & filled the trans fluid.
Up to that point, 1st to 2nd gear was a rough shift 3 out of 10 times. Reverse could be rough at times.
Original owner with original trans. Drive in “M” mode 90% of the time.
Now, at 175K, reverse is in real trouble. She crawls back slowly at low throttle (otherwise she leaps back violently).
1st gear seems solid.
Sometimes 2nd gear is completely skipped, while RPM builds at 1st gear until I shift into 3rd (or fourth in the worst case). 4th to 5th is okay, and 5th to 6th is okay as well. Overall, she seems sluggish.
When driving in full auto mode, shifts tend to be too early and too often. 4th gear at 20+ mph is not uncommon as of late.
What to friggin’ do?
Is my best bet to return to the Ford dealers (whom I have little faith left in when it comes to my truck & my $), and let them replace the lead frame & make software upgrades, etc? With 175K on the transmission, might I be into the rebuild stage (or worse)?
My instinct is to take her to a transmission expert and let him go nuts.

I am having the same problem now. I have a little over 78k on my truck. I have a 13' F150 FX-4 6.2. I called the dealerships around here and they are saying they that the lead frame cannot be the problem smdh. I'm sure it is the problem. I called a transmission shop and they said that sounds like its the problem and was quoted $439 with parts and labor to get it done.. The question is if any one you that got it done in the past are having any problems? Thank you again.

No problems after lead body fix done at 15K. Tuck has 78K on it now.

Truck is fine at 78K. Lead body fix took care of it under warranty at 15K. Your Dealer doesn’t know what they are talking about.

Lead Frame Recall Letter
I am very happy to see that most all with the leadframe transmission problem on their Ecoboost F150s successfully hot their dealers to do the right fix, and replace the leadframe. Now finally a letter comes out from Ford extending the warranty to 10 yrs or 150K. I will hold onto my letter if it happens again. The original leadframe replacement done at 15K under warranty has worked. I’m now at 80K. I just wish Ford had admitted the design problem of water intake and condensation in wet climates causing turbo sputtering on acceleration like I have experienced in my 2012. I noticed that I think in 2014 they changed the air intake location for the turbo to near the top of the engine. With mine they did some bandaid reprogram and grill air heating. I just try to do periodic accelerations in heavy rain now.
