Is it worth it?
Hey guys, so this winter I planned on doing a SAS on my 95 f-150. I plan on putting a 4 inch lift on the truck also. My question is is it worth it to do the SAS? The truck never ever sees mud/dirt, it just sees pavement and maybe a hay field (not mudding just driving slowly through it). I know TTB can be tricky when putting a lift on but will a 4 inch cause me a lot of trouble with the ttb? Bottom line, what would you do, and is it worth it?
Well its a double edge sword, the solid axle is easier to service and is stronger and has better aftermarket support(assuming ur doing a Dana 44 or 60)as far as I can remember the only thing u will need to add is a track bar ,that is if the axle is already set up for radius arms, the upside to the ttb is it is already there ,its a Dana 44 high pinion and is relatively strong, the tire size and ur driving habits are a factor, does it snow where u live,do u tow/haul a lot...what do u normally use it for,I would do it cause in the long run u would break even or come out ahead doing the SAS in my opinoin

The axle is set up for radius arms and already has them on it.
I guess my biggest thing is I dont wanna get into the project and end up screwing something up. Does anyone have a step by step process? Or are there any good threads around for the SAS?
Since im putting a 4 inch lift on it, does anything need to be modded even more?

U will need the radius arm brackets for the lift,u can get them from skyjacker separate still (I think so any way)there are lots of how to forums on the web ,but I would find a locale off road shop and talk to them, its not hard,if u had everything u needed it could be done in the driveway in a day or a day and a half, when I priced mine out to be done I think it was 900$ for labor and I would supply parts of course,it will vary depending on how much u want done ,rebuild the axle, change gears etc, if u are afraid of doing this alone hire a shop cause this requires cutting the center pin bracket out and welding in new bump stops and mounting up a track bar, which is critical on solid coil suspension,
you dont have to cut center pins or need to put in new bump stops.
and you can make a track bar mount out of square stock.
all you need is the axle, the track bar, the radius arms, the radius arm brackets, the coils for a 78-79, if your going with 4" lift you can just get 4deg radius arm bushings.
you will have to drill holes in the frame to mount the radius arm brackets.

Do u live on a reservation don't do **** cheap and half ***,I've seen many of these swaps in my home town and and u have to cut the center pin mount cause it interferes with the Axel travel, the stock bump stops don't work in the stock location cause he will lift it in the process and he will need to either move them or lengthen them, the drop brackets are REQUIRED if u want a halfway decent ride cause it keeps factory angle, have u ever had one of the radius arms snap on u,I have on a oil field road and almost wrecked my truck, cheaping out and using degreed bushing puts more stress on the pin end of the radius arm and it WILL FAIL.
