wheels locked up
I was going down the interstate when I heard a howling noise and then it sounded like bits and pieces rattling around so I turned on the next exit when suddenly the rear wheels locked up .After skidding about 30 feet they came free ,so I slowly drove to the nearest lot and as I was it would go about 10 feet and lock up then it would free up go 10 feet lockup again .It did this all the way to the lot which was about 100 yards away.I checked all the breaks they seemed ok.I got back on the road it seemed to drive fine so I got back on the interstate after about 20 miles it started the howling noise again I pulled over and looked under the truck and transmission fliud was pouring out between the motor and bellhousing .I had it towed home. What do you think could be the problem? Its a 1992 f150 302 ,two wheel drive ,automatic trans.

Well I think you pretty much can guess. If tranny fluid was pouring out sounds like the tranny disintegrated. At first it sounded like the rear end went out but the tranny fluid trumps that thought.

You might want to just pull the tranny pan off and see what kind of debris you find in there. I still think the tranny is toast but might be a good idea to do a little investigating first.
