Default What problems should I look for...

I'm interested in purchasing a 93 F250 and would like to know if there are any things to look out for. Did the 92-96 F-series have any bad areas that I should check out before I buy it?

thanks in advance

fuel pumps, auto trannies are junk, u-joints, radius arm bushings, suspension mounts, motor mounts, rust, wiring and soddering connection problems... rust... bearings, exhaust leaks, vacuum leaks, rear main seal (oil leaks from everything) - just bad gaskets on everything, rust (throw the hood up and watch if the truck bounces but engine doesn't)... i'll never by another one of these pos's - in fact, i'll sell you mine...

What a Chevy Dodge or Toyota? All my Fords were and still are pretty indestructable cept for fuel tanks and leaf springs.

the only problem ive had out of mine was fuel pump. but unlike hillbillie thinks. most of them are good. some have had the crap run out of them but apparently he had a bad apple. every truck has those problems eventually. i do recommend the 5 speed.

I'll agree with Hillbillie on some points. Here in the upper midwest, the spring shackles, spring hangers, radius arm brackets rust out frequently. It's such a problem that local dealers stock the parts. I even had to replace the spring towers. Reason, Ford was too cheap to paint the frames like they used to and relied on a cheap dip. The engine/exhaust heat would melt away & cause cracking of the dip, exposing the bare steel on these components to salt & moisture. I've never seen problems like this on older pickups.

Especially problematic is design of the rear spring hangers. They hold slush & debris. A simple drain hole would have solved the problem. The new 2008 & up F150's are a much improved design. The oil pans & gaskets on the 4.9L (92-96) were prone to failure as well. Pans rust & the gaskets usually pinch out & leak. It's not unusual to find these replaced after 5 yrs usage.

Conversly, the cabs & doors hold up well, and the 4.9L is durable. Keep the fluid changed & topped off on the 8.8" axle as well as the 5spd transmissions.

Regarding body rust, shoot gear oil inside the body pannels, especially at the heal of the front fenders and above the rear wheel openings. This should arrest further rust damage. I do this 2x /year.
