Default what to do about paint...

ok so you see what my problem is from the picture.. this is really the only reason i want a paint job, that and also because i have some rust on the drivers side rocker panel on the ext cab part, and some rust starting around the rear wheel wells. so i want to fix the rust and then get a paint job, but i called the local maaco and they said it'd be 1500 just to paint it (basecoat, clearcoat).. so what other options do i have other than basecoat clearcoat that'll still look good?

when it comes to paint you dont want to cut corners, a friend of mine had the bed of his yota painted 2 years ago and its faded to whitish red. insurance spent about 900 just to paint my bed side and that is still holding up perfect. i wouldn't want to spend any less then 3500 for a full paint job, thats if i wanted it to last. yea i can go to maaco and get a $400 paint job and it will be nice for maybe a year.

thats all advice though, i dont know much about paint aside from cheap=poor quality.

i was thinking about just getting the hood and top of cab and rust spots (after i fix them) painted but then i was afraid it wouldn't look right cuz that would be brand new and the other could be faded.

1500 is a pretty reasonable price. Just the paint for mine was $800. This doesn't include a clear coat or labor.

i called paint shops around here and for a mid-grade base and a mid-grade clear, the most expensive was 515.. with the cheap base it was like 285.. do you guys think they'll come down on the price if i do the sanding and such?

Yeah that'll help some. It just depends on the shop. I did all mine.

but i was talking to this guy that i know that paints a lot of his old chevy coupes that he rebuilds and he just finished painting a 72 pontiac and he said on the pontiac, the water from the air tank got in his paint and then it got on the car and it looked like there was a bunch of dirt spots or something where the water was in the paint. he had 3 filters in line on the air hose coming out of the tank and it still got in the paint.. what should i do? paint the whole truck or paint the rust spots that i have to fix, and the hood and the top of the cab and then call it good.. I'm just afraid it won't match up and it'll make the old paint look faded.
