Default What to do

I own a 91 f150 5.8L nite. I was wondering what the best performance upgrades would be for my truck to get more horsepower and if possible better gas mileage. It's an automatic regrettably but that is going to change soon. Hope to get some good response. Thanks y'all

have you done any engine or ignition or exhaust upgrades yet? i'd start simple and work from there. dual exhaust with good mufflers and a good set of headers. upgrade your coil, cap and rotor to msd or equivalent. good wires 8.5mm or 9mm. side gap your spark plugs. a good full synthetic oil change. a timing bump. and see where all that gets ya. after that, i'd get into the intakes and heads then cam. but it all depends on how far you want to go.

with a good set of headers, the gt40 heads and intakes i've heard between 30-50hp. i have the 5.0 though. i'm honestly not sure of how it would affect your engine, or even if they would bolt on. i'd assume so because theyre both the small block windsor, but again not positive.

If Maintaince has been poor or if there's high miles on it with lot of stock parts.

My 4.9L Is getting 8mpg while other guys report getting over 20 highway and 15-17 avg. Seems all 3 motors in our truck respond very well to proper maintaince and getting things back up to speed. New rotor, plug, cap, different oil, fluid changes, make sure brakes aren't dragging, etc etc.

Basicall yes and no. A few of us get 8mpg but seems a lot get much better. I believe it comes down to a motor begging to get some refreshing. No reason one guy gets 17mpg and another gets 7 on the exact same motor, axle ratio, body, etc.
