Can somebody please tell me what this bolt looking thing so I can figure out how to take it out??

Needs a point of reference. It's engine bay related because it's coated in oil but difficult to pinpoint.

It's called "oily grime". Take it off with soap & water - lots of it, several times.

Its the driver's side of a 92 Ford f150 transmission, right before the transfer case. My boyfriend said it looks like it's somehow connected to 5th gear and reverse? I'll post better picture tomorrow.

AFTER washing the truck, hold the camera farther away so it can focus, and so we have some perspective.

The smaller of the 2 bolts holds both into the side of the M5R2 transmission. The larger bolt on the right is a shaft that the 5th gear/reverse fork fits into. The fork is held inside with a snap ring.
