Please look at the pic. What are the two things in the blue circle? One has a wire that is not hooked to anything (red circle), one has a wire that goes to a plug. The two plugs in the green circle connect to each other.

Do I need to worry about this or just leave it alone?

BTW, its a 1987 F-150 5.0L

That is the radio interference capacitor that removes the radio interference caused by ignition noise. Here's mine (theres only one, maybe one of yours was thought to be dead so they added another)
