What does this do? I been driving my truck with it like this since i bought it.
Would this throw codes? Also i have another question not related to this. My clutch pedal has felt softer and has a little play when its all the way up. I think i am paranoid because i have never owned a stick before so i think i will ruin it all. It has also been easier to take off in first since i started noticing the clutch pedal like this.What i am asking is this normal with the clutch pedal?

That a coffee can, it is a vacuum resevoir, it won't hurt anything to leave it like that obviously but when you thunder down on the throttle the engine vacuum drops so any blend door or anything that opens or closes with vacuum quit working correctly until you come back down to a normal cruise rate. You should be able to find one in a junk yard if yours is leaking.

That canister is usually a vacuum reservoir its installed on some vehicles to allow a vacuum reserve. During acceleration you can have less available vacuum to operate vacuum accessories so it helps to compensation for those periods.
You could possibly get codes if its not hooked up. I would leak check the canister and if ok I would hook it up, also check for vac leaks in the lines too.

Is your clutch hydraulic or cable operated?

The truck is a 1993 so i believe its hydraulic. but don't take my word on that

The vacuum canister won't affect the clutch. If you are getting a soft and spongy clutch pedal its either you have air in the system or have a leak somewhere. Check the fluid level in the clutch master cylinder.

I would repair those vacuum lines to what you have or a replacement reservoir. At higher rpm's where you have less vacuum, things like the vents or the defrost won't hold in place and will switch back and forth.

how do you check the fluid level there is no dipstick to it like oil. i don't wanna pour it in blindly. sorry in advance for the dumb question just trying to learn lol

The answer is..........a broken line from the canister did not throw codes on my 4.9. It did throw a check engine light and limited acceleration when I got the lines hooked up and they were backwards. I relocated my canister to the driver's side fender below the washer fluid/coolant bottle to gain some under hood space for a future addition. There are two holes drilled in the inner fender in that spot that align perfectly for the canister to be mounted there. Don't know why, but the pre-drilled holes are present on my 95 4.9 and my 94 5.0. Just an option I throw out there if you ever decide to clean up the look under your hood. Back on topic........I found the lines broken and decided to use that opportunity to relocate the can. Once I ran new vac hoses and hooked everything up, I got the CEL at exactly 45mph and a huge loss in power. it took me a few minutes to swap the lines around and it fixed my issue. I tested it and swapped the lines back to where they were reversed and had the same issue repeat. Weird how a single broken vac line caused no issue, but reversed vac hoses caused major issues. Anyway, that's my experience and it was tested for verification. Here's a pic of the relocated canister...

and the new found space on the passenger's side inner fender....I also built a new Smog Pump Muffler to alleviate a little more space......

The clutch master cylinder is on the drivers side firewall just follow the line up from the transmission to it

I know where i should fill it at but i am worried about over filling how do i tell the level in it?

You should have just enough fluid in it that when you put the diaphragm back in it won't overflow.
