Default Various Issues - Help Please

All,

New here (obvioulsy), and need a little help. I pretty mechanically inclined, but pretty ignorant about Ford trucks...

So anyways, I had to get the old beater ('90) F150 inspected and it failed (affixed a pretty rejection sticker to it), I don't think I've seen a place this picky before

Anyways they said the following needed fixed:
  1. Driver's window won't roll down or up
  2. Can't have a turn down pipe after muffler
  3. Driver side inner & outer tie rod need replaced
  4. Pass side rear axle seal is leaking
The exhaust is no biggy, just manual work.

The window is there a common issue? The motor works, you can hear it running so I'm assuming the window regulator is probably shot.

Tie rod - anything special there? Seems you just removed the castle nuts on them, pop loose & screw them out.

Seal? - I'm at a loss on this - I know very little about axles. I'm guessing it has 8.8. Anyone done this & have some pointers or am I best to just let someone else do it?

The thing is this truck is just an old work/farm truck that gets driven a few times a month at most. Also the rig isn't worth all that much to begin with & the "inspection" placed wanted approximately 350 smackeroos to fix all the above.

Thanks

ehh, can you just pull the sticker off and and try and get it inspected at a slack shop, or is it registered in a computer database? I dont know how your state works, I know my rear axle seal leaks and i passed fine, and I see no reason the window should matter, tie rods oughtta be fixed though.

The window motor has nylon bushings in it that turns the gear, they get chewed up and fall apart, pull the motor and replace the bushings and it will work fine. You pretty much said what has to be done with the tie rod ends.As far as the axle seal, you have to pull the differential cover remove the pin and take out the c-clip then you can slide the axle out and replace the seal.
