Default Upgrade questions

So I want to upgrade my ignition system in the spring, (cap, rotor, plugs, wires) so what's the best brands to get? MSD, live wires...and where do I get them? Same with wires and plugs?

Anyone can post what upgrades they want to do and I figure we can all help out under a generic title it should be easy to find.

Ive always used MSD ignition systems in the past with my hot rods and I don't have a single complaint about them. If I ever have ignition probs on my F150, it will have an MSD system too. As to where to get them, Summit Racing or Jegs carries them I know and I've always had good luck using both of them too.

I have used Ford Motorsports, Accel, and Mallory in the past without problems. The Ford MS seemed to be the best bang for the buck.
YMMV

I have Ford Motorsport on my Mustang mainly because it looks nice at shows. MSD was on sale at autozone when I did my truck. Ive also used ACCEL and Sumitt racing's own brand for wires. They are all good quality for a street/ strip vehicle.

I guess I'll just have to keep watching prices for those between MSD and the others.

What about spark plugs? Since now there's hundreds of brands, copper, iridium, platinum, 1 prong all the way to 4 prong. What's been your experiences?

The electrician in me knows Copper is a better conductor than platinum or iridium with really only silver and gold being a little more superior than copper. With that, until they make plugs using silver or gold, I'll be using copper.

The thing that makes platinum or iridium seem better is only that they stand up better to heat temps and last much longer than copper, but as far as electrical conductivity, they are more in the ball park of aluminum in conductivity, which is far less than copper.

I haven't heard a lot of people having luck in the 300 engines with iridium or platinum, including me. Got the truck with a set of NGK iridium plugs and the truck didn't feel like it had much power under load. Probably because it didnt have the ignition system behind to to bring them to their full potential but still... Threw in a pair of champion copper plus plugs and it ran terrific!

Like Preston said, the platinum and iridium plugs are made for higher end aplications that produce more combustion heat and require more precise ignition systems and better burn for power and emission standards.

Awesome! Thank you guys so much!
That's actually really good information I didn't think about. For prongs just 1 prong the best?
