Have any of yall done this? I dont see how the connector can be removed much less re-installed. It is just way too big to fit thru the ring around the steering colum. Please, any help would be nice. This is the last item to get it street legal.

 

well without knowing the year of the truck i can tell you on my 95 you have to remove the shroud around the column top and bottom and then there are 2 torx bolts and the connectors just unplug from the back of the switch, there are 3 screws that hold the shroud thogether on the bottom and then it just snapps apart and pull it away from the column

It was not that hard on my 1987 truck, took about an hour to do. I cut the wires on my old one and just pulled the wires out the top. When I put the new one in, I disconnected all the wires from the connetor on the new one and put a piece of plastic around the wires and taped them together. I was then able to slide the wires down thru the ring. I used the old connector as a guide to reinstall the wires back into the new connector.

Cool. How did you disconect the new wires from the connector? Pin extractor?

 

I used a small flat head that was made for eye glasses, just push the tab down and pull the wire out. You might have to pull the red center part out of the connector to get to the tabs, just lift it up with the small flat head.

 

I did this on an 88 then a 90. I found it easier after the wheel was removed to remove the dash trim under the steering column than remove the two bolts that drop the column. A few screws holding in on the turn signal assembly, the conector will be real easy to get to then. Pull the old out and work the new in. Good luck.
