Default Turn Signal Problems???

I am having turn signal problems on my 1996 Ford F-150, 4.9L, 5 speed. The other day, I thought I smelled "burning rubber". Well, yesterday, I noticed my turn signals didn't work. The windshield wipers and the dimmer switch work, as well as the emergency flashers. I put a new turn signal componenent in just to check it, but no fix.

Anything in particular I need to look for, maybe a common problem?!

Thanks, Love the site!!

look in manuel for fuse block layout, and find the flasher fuse, same thing happened on my 89 f150, but without the "burning rubber" smell

Well, I feel like a total moron...because after checking the flashers/emergency lights, I had ruled out the flasher fuse...only to find later (after buying a $150 turn signal switch) there were 2 flasher fuses and one was bad!!!! So, 2 bucks later, all is well!!!

Where are these two fuses? All I can find in the owners manual and on the fuse panel cover is ONE fuse labeled “Turn Lamps”. I can not find any fuses named “flasher”.

I also am having turn signal problems and don't feel like buying a $150 switch.

Thanks, Bill

The fuse is actually a flasher relay...if I remember right!!! It has been 5 months now, but if memory serves, there are 2 flasher relays!!!

As for the right turn signal staying on...a $4 part in the steering column!!! Problem is, $200 at a mechanic...or $120 in tools for you and 5 hours!! LOL Good luck!

I've heard that f150's are famous for steering column shorts . I know my wiper delay acts funky at times .

I broke down and installed the $150 switch and it did fix the turn lights as well as fixing one of the emergency flasher lights that I couldn't get to work.
