Default truck visor?

What exactly dose the roof visor do? I mean is it just for shade or does it have some aerodynamic effect like extra down force or better air flow? I'm asking because I see them all over the place and don't know why the green strip on the windshield isn't good enough. Most online ads say its aerodynamic but does it ad any thing to it other then shade.LOL

I should clarify I am talking about the one the mounts over the windshield out side of the truck.

Personally, I think they look good but I couldnt see there being any benefits to having one not even much extra shade ,but who knows.

I think it's so if u had cab marker lights than the reflection won't hit your hood and distract you at night. Just a guess?
