Default Truck dies while being driven

I have done a lot of searching through the forum on this issue and there is a lot of information but nothing seems to help just yet.

I have an 87 F-150, but it has a 91 5.0 in it. Its been an amazing truck so far. Sometimes when Im just getting it going in the morning it will be driving right along and then while Im accelerating it will start to shake. If I let off the gas it'll stop shaking. If I continue to try to speed up 90% of the time the engine will shut off leaving me to coast and hopefully pull off the road (it always likes to do it while on fairly busy roads)

Whats odd if I cant just pop into N and start it up and keep going. I have to come to a stop, put it in P and then take the key out then try again.

One thing I noticed this morning when it did it was that when I got it going again I could smell a lot of gas in the air. Does it sound like an issue with the fuel pump to anyone?

If you're smelling gas you're geting gas. Check for spark.

On my way to work this morning (in my wifes car ) I was talking to a buddy of mine and he mentioned it could be the distributor cap since it seems to only happen when it is wet outside.

Course I am at work now so I cant check right at the moment but does that sound like something that could cause the issue?

Could be. Do yourself a favor & upgrade to a brass cap & rotor set. Will dependably outlast a stock grade set 2 to 1.
