I mentioned that, some people seem to have an aversion to that. He might get lucky w/ the IAC or fuel pump! If not, he can keep throwing parts at it til it start working right again. Sooner or later it will! I asked a manager as Autozone why they didn't offer to scan cars for customers anymore, and he said "Orders from corperate." they were getting heat for repair shop owners assoc.'s & they sell more parts when they don't. "How nice!" Once you get used to how to do Scans, it's kind of cool having your truck talking back to you! Much more cool, than when a wife or girlfriend does it!

So, me not mentioning anything about pulling codes magically means that I have an aversion to it? Empty logic.

I was trying to get some ideas while I was at work and did not have any opportunity to work on my truck, at that point. The trouble had only just happened that morning. But, God forbid anyone should ask a question without first seeking the enlightened wisdom of pulling codes.

You were more than willing to tell me it was the fuel filter, without the benefit of any codes, how's that for throwing parts at the problem? You were even willing to "bet me" it was the fuel filter and that was before you mentioned anything about codes.

I do not intend to throw parts at my truck, never have. Perhaps you should save your sarcasm and wit for your friends, perhaps they will appreciate it more than I.

For anyone that is still interested, I pulled the IAC valve and it was rather dirty inside. I sprayed it down thoroughly with carb cleaner and it is much better looking for it. The truck has not, as yet, had a repeat of the starting problem it had on Friday morning. If I can find an auto parts store that will read my codes, I will get that done. I don't have the money, right now, to buy one.

After 1996_Redneck_F150 suggested the IAC valve, I did a little searching, here and on Google, and found a few posts that lead me to believe that my problem is likely IAC related. My problem read a lot like many other people that had IAC problems and once they cleaned/replaced the IAC valve, their problem went away.

Thanks to anyone that had good, constructive suggestions.

I don't think he meant to be rude, it just sounds that way sometimes. I would still check for codes, it will give you an idea of how well the engine is running. It's good to check for codes every now and again since there can still be some even if the light isn't on.

I will pull codes when I can. I do not own an OBD-II reader and may not have the time to get that done before I go hunting this coming weekend and all next week. If Autozone is not doing it anymore, then maybe Advance Auto Parts still does. Otherwise, I am not sure where I can go to get them read.

Actually, deer season (bow) started on 9/15/09 and runs thru 1/30/10. And we have had a week of muzzle loader in October as well. Each state regulates their seasons differently, I guess.

The statement"Some people seem to have an aversion to pulling codes", is a true statement. You, using it as a premise to deduce "Therefore dewman has an aversion to pulling codes" is in fact, logically unsound. You "Magically" deduced that all by yourself! I appreciate "JCMS" for coming to my defense, as he has observed a majority of my 500 posts to the forum and although they occasionally raise eyebrows, no one has ever raised an objection. Save 1 person, and that person would be??? So, what might one deduce from that? How's this for an attempt at an actual "Logical" argument: A> dewman has Cows. B>Dewmans truck has limited carrying capacity. C> if dewman has a Cow on his hunting trip, there won't be any room to bring a deer back with him. D> Therefore, dewman should not have a cow on his hunting trip! A+B+C=D (When logic isn't readily available, there's always humor) Everybody's on the edge of their seats &/or keyboards! So it was the IAC ? I may be thinking out of the box but,Have some of the cows get out and walk. Did performance improve?

I was trying to get some ideas while I was at work and did not have any opportunity to work on my truck, at that point. The trouble had only just happened that morning. But, God forbid anyone should ask a question without first seeking the enlightened wisdom of pulling codes.

You were more than willing to tell me it was the fuel filter,I "may" have been coherst! without the benefit of any codes, how's that for throwing parts at the problem? Any exercise is better than no exercise at all! You were even willing to "bet me" it was the fuel filter and that was before you mentioned anything about codes. Do you accept out of town checks?

I do not intend to throw parts at my truck, never have. But isn't true that if you did throw enough of them (assuming you correctly installed them afterwards) the problem would eventually be solved? Perhaps you should save your sarcasm and wit for your friends, perhaps they will appreciate it more than I.I have friends?.... Who appreciate me? So that means "you" wouldn't be totally out of the question!
Have fun on your hunting trip!
