Default trip to columbus

I had to drive a friend to the airport today. the trip was from springfield, oh to columbus, oh (about an hr drive). The good news: made it there and back without breaking down

the bad news: the check engine light went on and off several times towards the end of the way back. I pulled the codes and the only new one is 172 which is a lean condition. Also I noticed the engine temp tends to fluctuate a bit. The needle was oscillating between the R in NORMAL and to the left of the N. It seemed to happen on curves or bumpy sections.

Any thoughts on what could cause my lean condition? and is it normal for the engine temp to fluctuate like that? Thanks!

My temp gauge runs around that area... about where 1/4 would be on a fuel gauge. It fluctuates between there and the M in Normal.
Can't help ya on the lean condition. Have you changed the fuel filter?

Probably o2 sensors for the 172 lean code.
