Tricking O2 Sensor Question
Hello everyone. I have a 1996 F-150 with the 4.9l I6. I am looking at getting a catless exhaust done on my truck. I want to be able to run no cats and have no check engine light. I know there are O2 sensor spacers, spark plug fowlers, resistors, and/or simulators. I would prefer a resistor or simulator as I am going to have a custom exhaust done and do not want to have to drill into it to put in an O2 sensor. Does anyone know of a part number or something of that nature for a resistor or simulator that could fool my downstream O2 sensor or do I have to do a spark plug fowler or O2 sensor spacer? Any input is appreciated. Thanks.
Why do you care whether there's a catalytic converter on the truck? It ran fine when it left the assembly line with 2 of them, and it's probably STILL running fine with them. Removing them won't make it run better, but it will make it illegal to drive on any public road or land.
Parts & software that disable emissions systems are ILLEGAL to sell. Read about what happened to all the companies selling chips & parts for diesels a few years back, and what happened to Honda & VW for lying to the EPA. Just because there's no testing where you live & drive today, doesn't mean there won't be tomorrow. Watch the news - laws about gas-burning vehicles are changing RAPIDLY all over the world, including in many US states. And if you hack up your truck now, it's gonna be a LOT more expensive to fix it later, and it'll be worth a LOT LESS if you ever want to sell it.
Just follow the maintenance schedule using top-quality parts & published procedures. The truck will run great - all of mine do, with ALL their emissions systems still working.
