Default trany swap

well im tired of the stupid POS auto trany and putting a 5 speed in its place behind the inline 6. i got a new motor and it came out of a truck that had a 5 speed, so its ready for a 5 speed, what all in the morse case senario will i need.
my truck is a 92 F150 with the inline 6(300 series, 4.9L) and 4x4.

i kow i need, the trany, clutch, fly wheel, preasure plate, petals, slave cylinder, master cylinder, lines, was told i dont need a computer since the tranys in my year arent electronicly controled on shift points(it has a kick down cable) anything else im forgetting.

There's a plate on the floor that unscrews for a manual. It's larger than just the shifter hole and you can remove the top cover of the tranny through it so I'd use it too. I've had to take the top off a few times. You'll probably need the crossmember, but not the smaller brackets for it that won't come out unless you raise the cab. You'll also probably need the driveshaft, but you can measure the lengths of both transmissions to see. The reverse lights probably won't plug into the manual, so you would need the connector so you can wire them up. You'll need the clutch safety switch if you want that to work. The transmission mount might be different.

I hope the tranny you got is '92-'96, because it's better than the '88-'91.

We did one on an 87 ranger years ago and everything was a bolt on. We had to have a driveshaft lengthened but it was easy. We had a whole parts truck tho which was nice bc you have everything you will need. I am looking into doing this swap too

Getting ready to do this to mine as well, already started collecting parts. The hump plate is taller so your carpet probably won't fit after you do this swap, That's why I'm cutting a hole in my hump. Sean's got you covered for the parts you need though.

If the hump is taller then it's for clearance.

I understand you'll have more control over your truck with a 5 spd, but that C6 your getting rid of is the strongest tranny that Ford ever made. I wouldn't get rid of it. But good luck on your swap.

His truck most likely has an E4OD...not a C6...

few things i have found out.
1. trany is shorter you need to move your crossmember or get a 5 speed cross member.
2. to remove the smog pump and the a/c compressor you need a belt a little ibgger then 77" long.

3.pettls are very easy to swap out and the auto linkage is very easy to remove, to master cylinder is very easy to add in as well everything is perty much ready for a 5 speed. (theres a gray plug up in behind your dash, has a cap on it is the plug that goes to the master cylinder.)

give you more info as i find it out.
