Default Transmission issue

I start my 93 f150 (6cyl e4od trans) I put it in drive and take off. Everything is good. Once I stop and try to take off again it feels like it's slipping, I have to pop it back down to 2 then it works perfect again. Fluid levels good, filter is new, fluid is new. The best way I could describe it is like driving a stick shift car and not letting the clutch completely out. It moves but feels like it's slipping.

Sounds as though a rebuild is in your near future.

When you did the fluid an filter was there any metal on the magnet? If so you might be in bad shape.

There is the possibility that the filter came loose and is lying in the bottom of the pan. That could cause weird issues. It's a possibility is all, but it's worth checking before condemning the trans or burning it up from slippage.

I had a shift cable loose and had these symptoms. Was only partially going in gear. Long shot maybe.

Thanks I'll check it out. Have to try everything. It's just weird how it works perfect when I first take off then doesn't "reset" when I stop and go again.

Just wanted to let you guys know my transmission was in "limp" mode. Plugged a code reader had a bunch of codes come out. One that stood out was VSS fault. Took the VSS out it seamed to be functional the plug was in good condition. I stumbled on to an old blog about reading codes and the first thing the guy said was before you plug the reader in make sure your speedometer is functional. My speedometer was NOT functional as well as the odometer. Went on eBay purchased a new one with a tach and also added the white gauge stickers(why not). Just installed everything and the truck runs flawlessly. Limp mode is gone.
