Question Transfer case question

I finally got my clutch replaced and the truck is running pretty good. When you get in the higher gears the transfer case jumps out of gear. I was planning on going to the junk yard in the morning and trying to get another case. What other years will work in my truck? 1994 XLT w/ the 302. Thank in advance!

Does it have a body lift? My truck has a body lift and because of that the selector handle would not throw all the way into the detent. Are you sure you shift handle is going into the detent?

92-96 will probably be the easiest because of the plunger style push-down for low range setup they went to in that body style. But just about ANY Ford t-case will fit including previous BW1345, NP208, NP205 and NP203. Not that it would make much sense to do any of that, most would require driveshaft mods and watch out for Bronco 'cases as they basically had a factory SYE.

In all seriousness all these trucks are old enough to have such mileage that it's a gamble if you'll escape your problem with a used 'case. I'd open it up and rebuild it. Your range fork pads are worn and it's probably eaten thru the range fork to see what you're describing, but all these parts are available from any reputable drivetrain house. The rebuild is not that hard if you're mechanically inclined.

It doesn't have any lift at all. I'm not mechanically inclined at ALL!

If I do get a used one that's not in the greatest shape but will at least stay in gear, I hardly ever use 4wd. Would I be ok? The truck was free and I don't want to just pile money into it. It will mainly be used going back and forth to work. Maybe 20 miles a day.

You never use 4wd but your screen name is Mudtruck. Do you have another truck or something?

That's what my two year old son calls it.
That was the first thing I thought of when I had to come up with a username.
