Default Trans is slipping only in 4x4, Trans code "T"

Hello one and all. I have 2 questions.
1) How can I have a Ranger Trans in my F150. The trans code is "T" which designates it should be found in a ranger. Someone please explain.

2) The tranny slips only when in 4wd, I was out in the snow the other night in 4wd at about 35 mph. after staying off the gas for a bit (going down hill and no throtle needed) but as soon as i got back on the throtle it reved and sounded like gears slipping or grinding. After pushing the electronic 4x4 selector to take it out of 4wd a bang occured. Why is it sometimes it works and other times i feel as tho its gonna drop on the road.
Ive only had the truck since the new year and dont want to get rid of it. Its a 93 w/ 165k on it. Thanks in advance for any advice that will help me rctify this problem.

question 1: mine is the same code, its the AOD transmission, i dont understand it either but thats the way it is.
question 2: sounds like it could be something in the transfer case, im not sure though im not a tranny guy. Just thought since i put in my 2 cents in question 1 i would throw my worthless 2 cents in on question 2.

1-Probably the same trans, ranger just has a smaller bell bolt pattern, like the mazda m5od, same internal for f150 and the ranger,

2-check trans fluid level, I am not sure if there is cross flow from the trans to the transfer case.

Default found problem

Ok after two days in the shop here is the problem. My AOD tranny is fine. Its all in the transfer case. Just as I suspected. The forks are worn and need replacing, the chain is being replaced, the actuator is being replaced and some previous owner did some home wiring on the electrical connection. It works but its shoddy work, so its being replaced. Trans is being cleaned including pan, screen, fluid and gaskets. - Total cost to get it back, $1126.15 - Why does it always happen when u need it.
