Default trans cooler lines

hey everybody. yup I AM a NOOOOOOOOOB to this forum. love it when i am the new guy. and thanks in advance for all your help.

so my grandpappy passed his truck ole'blue down to my dad. and my dad and i kinda "share" it. it is a 92' custom 4.9 inline 6cyl. she was an appliance truck for many years and is about 40 miles away from 200,000!!!!

so the trans cooler lines are rusted out and the lower line is leaking from a pinhole. i have a temporary jb weld "fix" that is sucking. i have been looking for replacement lines for a few days and can't find anything. so i am wondering if you guys have a good place for parts for the old models or if you know if a braided line or that thermoid hose is the way to go?

thanks again.

here is good ole' blue

They have steel lines at the parts store, you just have to bend them to fit. Take out the old line, run a string along it and measure the string to see how long it needs to be. Or patch it with rubber fuel hose but that won't last as long.

I'll ask the question because I have never bent a steel line. Do you have to have a special tool to bend it right without pinching it? Just be careful? I have seen the type of benders that electricians use to bend conduit....

Are there any shops that would sell that as an OEM part?

too bad that bike in the back of the truck is orange. Would look better with a red one.

you might be able to rent or 'borrow' the bending tool from a parts store. ask around. you probably wont find anything pre-bent except for a junk yard maybe. http://www.eastwood.com/brake-line-t...parent_id=2454

Most of the time I don't even use the bender, but you have to be careful. For a beginner I'd say to use the bender so you don't kink it.

Or check Harbor freight & tool.

You could go w/ a piece of hose split down the center to wrap around the pin hole, secured w/ a hose clamp around/ over it. Cut the demension of the patch piece slightly smaller than the tube to allow for compression. think I'd do that before cutting the tube & reconnecting w/ hose & 2 clamps.

Definitely. The kink likes to waits for the last of the bends you have to make. (See: Murphy's Law/ Steel tube modification/ Last bend/ Need for more tubing/ Should have used bending tool)
