Default trailer wiring adapter

Hi all.
1995 F-150
I have the tow ready wiring with the 3 and 4 pin round connectors mounted at the rear of the truck.
Does any one know where to get the adapter to go from the truck wiring to 7 pin plug?
Thanks
Darrell

Your local Ford Dealer might be able to get one, I cut off the ends and spliced my wiring directly to the harness. Remember if you do not have the relays in place the power and brake controller will not work.

Thanks Mitchalvin.
I doubt this truck has the relays in place. I just got the truck last week so I am not to familiar with what Ford did and did not do as far as the wiring for the trailer brakes and lights.
Could you direct me to the location of where the relay(s) need to be installed?
I did find on open slot at the power distribution center unde the hood but since I have yet to get an owners manual I don't know what each of the fuses and relays got o.
Thanks
Darrell

Check your owners manual to be sure. There should be a second panel attached to the under hood fuse box. This contains the extra relays for the brakes and charge. There should also be a couple in the main fuse box. Usually the only relays not installed from the factory are for the trailer brake, charge, and backup lights. These typically were in the glove box so the previous original owner might have put them in place to keep from loosing them.

I got one at wal-mart last month for my 93. It plugs into the 4 prong & has both 4 prong and newer 7 plug then as plug ins. You will have to wire the additional for brakes which I did not have & ground, power.
about $25.

I believe that he is talking about the factory trailer wiring. It has two round plugs one with the light wires and ground, the other has the wires for backup, trailer charge, and trailer brakes. These are not the 4 flat pin boat connector that is common on most light duty trailers.

You are correct Mitchalvin.
I called Ford. $116 for the connectors with the 7 pin plug attached...needless to say I didn't go that route.
I tried my local salvage yard and with a lot of luck I found the factory round connectors (to plug into the factory prewired harness) the the factory 7 pin connector. Unfortunately the wires had been cut but since all the plugs and the connector was there all I had to do was solder and shrink wrap the wires and all is good. The PO of my truck had even installed all the related relays and fuses for battery/back-up and battery charging.
Thanks
Darrell

Yeah I myself just spliced into the factory towing harness by cutting off the plugs and connecting the trailer plug into the wires without the plug. The relays were also installed on my truck when I got it.
