Default Towing

How do i prevent towing issues? I want to two a trailer w/ a car on it (lexus sc300 and a foxbody mustang not at same time). I want to make sure that the *** end of the truck is going to sink what can i do to prevent this? i am figuring the sc300 is the heaviest at 3300lbs-3600lbs and the trailer at 1800lbs.

Thats about all you can do to the truck short of upgrading your leaf springs.

*Just remember that when you load the car onto the trailer- don't pull it forward more than you need to. You want the load on the trailer to be centered over the axel of the trailer. People have a tendency to pull the car as far forward as they can- which adds a lot of uneeded tounge weight, which gives you saggy-*** on the truck. (Too far back on the trailer is also and unsafe)

Airbags- they mount inbetween the axle and frame.

Go to an RV or camper dealer. They should be able to give you a couple ideas. A few years back I got a quote for 6-700 dollars.

As far as your offroading- I wasn't suggesting a lift, just heavy duty springs. If you put too much of a lift towing will be an issue. Center of Gav. etc, etc......

I have a '93 F150, 2WD and had the same question as 2Slow4U, looks like Summit has a set of bags for about $185 that should do the trick. I'm pullin' a Fox too!

The weight on the tongue should be 9-15 percent of the total load on a tandem axle trailer. Here is a good site on towing. http://www.sherline.com/lmbook.htm#refrn9

I put the AirLift, Summit part number AIR-59501 on my '93 F150 2WD. The installation was 2-3 hours like was recommended and pretty straightforward. I haven't used them with the loaded trailer but I am guessing I will like the results. The firmness they add to everyday driving is pretty good too.

I took off the 4 lealf springs and replaced them with 5 leaf form a donar truck - same make and model but with extra leaf.

I would take out the blocks though for a more stock ride height.

I load a 4400 pound travel trailer and no sag AT ALL. in fact it doesnt even dip.

Cost me a hundred bucks for the springs and another 60 to have them put in.
