Default Tire sizing

Hi all, I have a 1994 F150 regular cab 4x4 and the tire size on the door jam is 265/75/R15. First question I thought standard size for an F150 was 235/75/R15. Any idea why this vehicle has 265? Second the wheels on the truck appear to be stock aluminium. The tires on it now are 33's. unlike most people I would like to put 235/75/R15 back on the truck. Can I do this on the rims I already have? Any drawbacks to going to 235's? I'm hoping it will give me a better shot at higher MPG's. thanks

they came with either or, more of the later models like the 94-96 came with the 265 size. you can go with the 235's fien or you can go with the 265's

I've got a 94 2wd that calls for 235/75 15's - will 265/75/15's effect my speedometer reading or anything?

i'm sorry i guess i sould of stated the 4x4 models came with the 265 or 235 tires. and anytime you go away from the factory size you speedo will not give the correct speed anymore

Within the right limits though. Like a 235/75 is ok to swap with a 245/70... But any bigger than 31s will change the speedo.

The 265's may have a slight effect on the speedo, but not much. And they will fit on your current rims.

My 96 F150 4x4 has the 265's listed as stock size. I don't think you see any appreciable difference in fuel economy with 235's, but they will fit on the stock rims.
