Default Tire Recommendations

Well guys my Dad and I worked on my truck yesterday and found out that I really need a new set of tires due to dry rot. One of them has a pretty good crack in it already so I don't have much time to wait for deals to pop up. My truck has a 4.9L and 3.08 gears. I currently have the stock 235/75/15 tires and plan on either staying the same or going up to a 31 x10.50. This kind of caught me by surprise so I can't afford to go any bigger and worry about lifts or leveling kits or re-gearing.

My first choice would be Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs if I can afford them, I also saw the Wrangler Authoritys as being rated pretty high. Let me know what you guys recommend I need a decent all terrain tire at an affordable price. Thanks for your time.

*I will be using stock rims

I was going to suggest the same tire... Tons of ppl around me have them and have nothing bad to say. Good traction and not very noisy. When my ol noisy *** bfg mud terrains wear out that's what I'll be going to.

Wrangler Authoritys === wall mart junk. check out the goodyear site they dont even list them.

i would get the duratracs if your dead set on goodyear.

stick with the stock size with the 3.08 gears and the 4.9l. trust me.

check out discount tire direct, free shipping to your house, then take them somewhere and have them installed. takes about 3-5 days to get them, plenty of time.

I got the wrangler MT/R with Kevlar in 35" and they werent that expensive at $179 a tire. They arent noisy on the road and are great off-road. Check them out. Just go to a tire shop like americas/discount and tell them you can get them somewhere a lot cheaper. They had mine listed at $211 a tire and i just told them i can get them for $180 (even though i couldnt, just a little lie) and boom they dropped it down to 179 so i took the deal. You can bargain with tire shops.

Thanks a lot for your help guys, I'm still not particularly sure what to, will probably stick to stock size though so I don't lose too much power and fuel economy. Will keep you guys posted

Got these on a 03 F250 and they do awesome in winter thus far. less road noise than whatever good years were on it. Haven't been on long though. Check out ratings, specs, and reviews. For one of the cheapest tires in stock size, I see no wrong here.

Ive got Michelin LTX AT2 and theyre pretty good. 560 for a set of 4 on Tirerack.

Low noise, pretty good offroad, and they didnt affect my gas mpg.

On another note, I think BFG AT's are like 20 more per set on Tirerack, but they have either a $50 or $75 rebate for a set of 4, so theyre actually cheaper!

I've been running the Wrangler Authority for 20k miles so far, and I'm very pleased with them. At $150 a tire(now, $140 when I bought), they're the cheapest 31s I've seen, and I'm nothing but impressed.

They're great in all off road conditions I've thrown at them, which is gravel, dirt, and mud. My truck gets through almost all the same stuff as 4x4s with these things. They're good on dry road, great in the wet, I've never had to so much as think about driving any different when it's raining with these. They are still well over half tread, with 20,000 on them, balance well, ride smooth, and aren't too noisy. They also look great, IMO.

I would not hesitate to buy them again, and if I buy 31s again next time, they will be what I get, no questions asked

well i bought a set of BF Goodrich rugged terrains and have tested them in any weather condition on and off road they are great tires and put about 800 miles on them so far and it just barley lost 1/16th on the tread. they are great off road and super quiet on road as in i don't hear anything from the tires at all. the only thing they are not the best in is pure mud and shear ice other then that great tire. mine are 31 10.5 15s LT 10 ply they are stiff but worth every cent. they also have some of a side wall too! which i was surprised to see for a hybrid tire.
i bought them for 690 bucks installed but i got 10% off because i work at sears
and yeah i put 700 bucks worth of tires on a 300 dollar truck
