Default timing

so i did full tune up on my 94 4.9l manual trans and set up timing light to do timing. instead of the mark on crank being on top it is on bottom when hooked up to cylinder#1. i just bought it and alot of stuff has been messed up so im not suprized. i cant figure out why it is so far off ... turned distributor a lil but could only get it to about 110 degrees off and dont know what to try next.. exhaust seems to be hotter then normal so i think its firing way after TDC.

Find top dead center and mark it on the balancer. Or buy a new balancer, they shift sometimes.

The balancer is held in place by the key. How would it shift?
