temp and gas tank issues
Hi everyone, I am new to this forum. I hope it helps me as much as my Fiero forum has. I have a 95 F-150 with the inline 6.
First problem, my temp gauge does not work. I have replaced the temp sending unit, the temp sensor, and the thermostat. The gauge stays at zero (far left) and does not move when I ground the wire in the engine compartment. So I believe this is telling me there is a problem in the wiring somewhere. I think I have checked all fuses. The ones under the dash and the ones in the engine compartment. Anyone have any ideas?
Next problem, my gas gauge on my front tank (it's a dual tank setup) doesn't work either and here is the wierd part, when I use the rear tank (the one with a working gauge) it seems to be putting gas in the front tank somehow. After using about 2 or 3 tanks of gas in the rear tank, the front tank will overflow. The exact amount of time it takes to cause the front tank to overflow depends on how much gas is in the front tank initially. So I'm left using the front tank all the time without a gauge. I estimate fullness and emptiness via the trip meter (really annoying) I don't now where the sending unit is for the tank and I don't think it's related to the gas problem. Anyone have any ideas about this?

Maybe your actual temp gauge is broken. Also your fuel reservoir setup. The return lines maybe returning fuel into the first tank. what I would do is disconnect the return line to the tank you do not want filled and that should solve the problem.
I agree with him on the gauge. I think the temp gauge in the truck is bad. I would check the switchover valve for teh overfilling the front tank problem. Take the line loose from the switcover valve to the tank that is being overfilled. have some one turn the key on but do not start. the pump in the rear tank should cycle. If you see fuel coming out of the valve to the line leading to the overfilled tank that is your culprit. Make sure that the lines are attached properly. IF that is not the problem check the return system. There should be one line back from the engine to the valve then the valve should switch the return.
i have a 94 F150 and I have the same problem with the fuel gauge on the front tank and fuel from the rear tank transfers to the front.
i have not been able to find the cause for it.
every once in a while i notice the gauge for the front tank working but then after a minute it stops working??????
Let me know if you have figured it out

Not sure here, but I have the same problem- When I use my rear tank, fills the front tank with fuel.
I've been told that on my '92 there is no switch valve. The pumps operate independently and part of the pump assembley is a check valve that keeps the fuel from "back filling" the other tank. I think the only fix is putting in a new fuel pump- if there's another fix I'd love to hear it.

I'm having a similar problem, except my front tank is leaking and the fuel pump doesn't work, so I am pumping fuel into a bad tank that I can't use, and it leaks all over the ground. hehehe
At current gas prices, this is a problem.
I am putting a new tank in it this week, and a new fuel pump if needed.
I'll post anything interesting that I find out.
