Yeah, you're looking at a big job. Really big job...

If you have your heart set on it, and your wallet can handle it, anything is possible. I would look into a straight axle front end to swap in if it were me - getting rid of the factory I-beam setup would be the main reason I'd do a front end swap anyway.

Default 2wd to 4wd

Thanks for the quick response, I have access to a very clean 4x4 with really low miles 49,000 I think, a big tree dropped on it and bent the frame, but the truck runs and drives and I was just thinking about swapping out the whole front suspension etc...

That would be the money saver, but is that what you really want?

You'll still have to do a lot of fabrication to get the right mounts in the right place (the 4x4 front isn't a drop-in). You'll still have the same alignment issues that we all suffer with.

I'd still keep an eye out for a straight axle to swap in if it were me, but this is your decision to make.

All the parts from the 4x4 will bolt right on to a 2x4.

They'll bolt right up to the same mounts? I was under the impression that the mounting brackets were in different locations.

Well, with a donor truck the brackets can be swapped. But from what I've read the parts will swap without changing brackets.

Well, I'd take your advice before mine any day! When they say you can't believe everything you read on the internet, they are talking about me!
