Default Strange VIN code?

I started looking around the 'net to see what I could learn about my '92 and all I've learned is that it probably doesn't exist. The "1FTE" at the start of the VIN all checks out. There's an "N9NKA" that matches stuff I've found elsewhere. But there's an "X15" that none of the decoders or VIN breakdown lists can explain. According to one online decoder my rig started out as a Flareside. But I seriously doubt that. It was a 1-owner truck. I just don't see them ordering a Flareside and then converting it to a Styleside. Anybody have any insight?

That's just generic info about understanding VINs. Even the Ford-specific sites don't list the "X15" body style code.

Flareside and styleside are the same parts with different trim pieces I think. I have heard both term used interchangeably.

Yeah, that link worked. But the info wasn't there. All it told me was that it's a Ford F-150. Nothing about the engine code or body style. It did list a bunch of recalls though. That was interesting.

People do sometimes use "Flareside" and "Styleside" interchangeably. Or they at least mix them up. "Flareside" is Ford's name for what GM calls "Stepside"; "Styleside" is a "normal" pickup bed. I definitely don't have a Flareside bed. So I can't trust the decoder that said I do have one. It's possible. It just doesn't make any sense to me that the original owner would buy a Flareside if they wanted a Styleside. Though I suppose they could have bought the Flareside then decided it didn't work for them.

It looks like the "X" in "X15" probably indicates F-150... or at least F-series. But the only "15" body style code I can find is for a 4x4 Ranger, which I think was "R15". There's an "X08" and an "X17" listed for the F-150.

I ran my through the various online sights and everything showed up. Running through the TX DMV system gets a records not found response. County tax office on the same system gets nothing. They charge sales tax on what the system shows for value. Glad I only paid $100
