Default steering box question

My Dad recently had his power steering pump replaced and now the steering box is leaking. The mechanic told my dad it was caused by him adding too much power steering fluid in the pump, or the new power steering pump overpressurized the box causing it to leak. Both sound like BS to me and I told them I did not believe thier claim. My dad did have to add steering fluid a time or two because of the box leaking. Am I right or could the pump spontaniously cause the box to leak after they fixed the pump.

I think it's probably possible... hence the printing on the cap "DO NOT OVERFILL".

Sure, his old crappy pump went out and now the new pump is pumping so well it blew out the seal on the old crappy box.
