Steering
96 f150 6" lift w/ 35" tires 234,000 miles...my problems is that i have atleast a half turn of play in my steering..i have had my lift on for about 2 years now and the steering is gettin worse.. anyone have any suggestions?...thanks
Have you inspected all the steering components? Tie rod ends, drag link. Did you install a drop pitman arm to correct steering issues? Is it the steering box that has the excessive play? If it is there's a jamb nut with a shaft through it that can be adjusted. Have you inspected the frame for cracks? Check around the lift brackets and where the steering box bolts to the frame. The lift brackets are supposed to be welded to the frame to prevent cracking. Check the steering shaft, the shaft that connects the steering column to the box under the hood. There's 2 joints on it, and I think one is a rag joint. The rag joint is a cloth type material used to make the joint and deteriorates over time.
