Default starter squeal?

recently my starter has started to squeal when it retracts. if i hold the ignition on for a few seconds it sounds normal but as soon as i release it it makes a squealing/chirping sound? should i be worried about this? i replaced the starter last year so its fairly new.

It may be that the starter is not disengaging fully or is taking longer to disengage. That could cause the starter gear to rub against the flywheel and make some noise.

if the starter is staying engaged for to long it may be the starter solnoid (how ever you spell it) its right on the pas. side fender. the windings in there may be bad causing your problem. they are like $15

Was wondering if this was a Ford starter or an after market. Don't know why it would take so long to show up, but if an after market, have seen the tooth count not correct on the bendix. Causing a noise on disengagment.
