Either yer starter gear is goin or the gear on the flexplate or flywheel is gettin wore. Does it do it all the time or every so often. Chances are it's yer starter. Cheapest thing to try. You won't like the other option if the starters good.

I had this problem over the summer. It ended up being the bendix was bad in my situation. Take the starter and have it tested would be my suggestion.

Yup sounds like the Bendix gear might be worn, and if its not fixed soon will wear the flywheel ring teeth. You can get a rebuild cheaper than a new starter and isn't all that difficult to do. Check connections too if its having a hard time turning over, replaced my battery cables cause they were so corroded in a spot i couldn't see.

Was it doing the same thing with the old one? Is that why you replaced it?
