I've HEARD that Fram oil filters will kill a Ford oil pump (I don't know how true that is). I had a mechanic that worked on nothing but 7.3 Powerstroke diesels, tell me that. I religiously always used Fram oil filters on my mustang, and it didn't cause any problems. I didn't wanna chance it with my truck, so I use Purolator oil filters.

Yep - been an FL-1A fan for most of the truck's life - with an occasional deviance to Wix. Back in the truck's early days and my lesser experience - used the AutoZone specials - Purolator, Fram, Bosch, STP, etc. - but was not pleased after cutting them open to see the reduced amount of filter area.

To me, less area means that either more crap will be let through, or a higher pressure restriction. Just no good substitute for square inches of filter media area, IMHO.
