Default Speedometer gears

I have a '88 2wd F150 with 4.9 liter and 5 speed. The truck currently has 3.55 gears but I'm going to change them to 2.73's. What speedometer drive and driven gears do I need and where do I get them?

what 5 speed do you have? 2.73 gears are way too low (numerically) for anything let alone the 300-6. The perfect gears for them is 3.23 for keeping the truck in the torque peak... any higher or lower and you'll suck gas with any load... lower and you'll be lugging it to the point it wont ever be happy...

if you have m5od that thing is going to be a real turd taking off... so a trans with a low 1st gear will be needed

If you're real close to my area, I'd swap rear ends with you, aside from mine being 3.08 lol

I would too... I'd love 3.55 or 3.73 gears

Not looking for advice on whether I should put them in or not. I've already made that decision. I never haul anything in this truck, it's just transportation back & forth to work with all highway driving. My 5 speed trans has a bulldog first gear. I just need to know what speedometer gears so my speedometer is correct. Thanks

It will be a turd. My truck does just fine with 3.08s, trailer and all, just have to select the right tire size.

Drive gear is the same and I would think the driven would be the same too unless you change tire size. Here's a link:
