Default Speedometer failure

I've got a 1995 F150 and the speedometer just quit, I noticed that the fuse was blown so I replaced it and it instantly blew again. i checked for any shorted wires ect but cant seem to find anything out of the ordinary.
My plan is to go through the entire harness this weekend and see if I can find anything that may be causing it.

Any thoughts?

Far as I can tell there's no speedo cable there just a sensor of sorts with a pair of wires.

On my 94 the vss sensor is in the rear differential. Then there are two wires going from that to the computer. Yours should be the same way

On the top of your rear axle, there will me a small black connector with a bolt on it, that is your VSS ( Vehicle Speed Sensor). Those wires are the ones you want to look at and possibly replace the sensor while your in there.

Sylver91, thanks for the reply, I will take a look at that tonight, is there anyway to test the VSS?

Yep same thing happened to me. My vss connector burned out so I had to replace it. Then my speedometer needle flopped back and forth. But since yours has stopped working completely you'll probably just have to replace the sensor. But sometimes they just need a good cleanin

why couldn't ford just leave things nice and simple. I'm going to have to learn things all over again lol.

How do we account for gear changes in the rear end?

There isn't really a way to test it unless it with codes. They are rather inexpensive so cheap insurance to replace anyways. Replaced mine when i changed my differential fluid and now my speedometer doesn't bounce as it used to.
