Check the VSS in the rear axle along with the wiring up to the frame from the VSS. These are somewhat common where issues and can go out.
if your dome lights don't come on it could be something as simple as the fuse, same thing happened to me dome lights speedo and odometer quit workin on me all at once and i just replaced the fuse, one good thing about it is that id doesn't add miles to the truck
yeah. for sure gonna check the fuses. dont know if the dome light works or not. got no bulb.. but i'll replace and see. the guy before was asking about the abs light in the dash. does anybody know why or what these two problems might have in common?
The external gear may be good, but the internal one is worn like someone else said. Mine did the exact same thing as yours and I had to remove the tail housing of the tranny to replace the internal gear.
The VSS is the electrical plug on top of the rear axle, if you have movement of your speedometer then you should have power to the VSS. I am not positive on how to check them, others should get online and tell you the proper procedures on testing the vss.

sorry. i just got the truck and i used to be a older chevy truck guy. is there a how to or something i could look at? thanks
