Default Sounds from engine

I drove my dad's F150 to Ga, about 6 hour trip. About thirty minutes from destination it stalled on expressway, serpetine belt came off, white smoke poured away from under hood. Prior to this there was a first a screeching sound then later a tapping sound that increased as I accelerated. The screeching i beleive came from the tensioner pulley breaking off causing the belt to come off. I installed a new tensioner and belt but tapping still there and truck idles out after it starts. Any ideas what may be going on? By the way my dad did not do regular oil changes, by which i mean years between oil changes.Thanks.

Welcome to the forum! From your description it is clear that tensioner bearing fell apart, thus causing a belt to come off, therefore water pump stopped working, causing engine overheating. IMO to check:
1 - water pump for bearing free play - just in case, since tensioner fell apart there's a chance that water pump is next
2 - cylinders compression - to see is head(s) gasket(s) are ok.
3 - do an oil change. Oil doesn't like high temps.

At least it's the way I see the situation from over here lol

No offense intended, but for your future reference - no matter what vehicle you are driving, if it changes its behavior, or makes a new sound, (tapping, screeching, whatever) pull over immediately and check it out. That's the best way to prevent further damage. If you are driving an older vehicle and aren't prepared to make field repairs, you should have an AAA membership. Oh yeah, and carry a spare serpentine belt.

Good question. Also, did you notice white smoke from the tailpipe? Does it still smoke?

That's good to hear. Milky oil or white smoke from the tailpipe would point toward a head gasket.

You mentioned white smoke under the hood - does it still smoke? Also, have you checked your compression yet?

It only produced the billow of smoke after it died on the side of the expressway....I have not done a compression test yet, but i did discover that the water pump was faulty
