Hey all, so im at a loss here and id like some advise and opinions on what to do with my old truck. It is a perfectly reliable truck but a little ugly do the faded, mismatched paint. I really like the 92-96's but it will be hard finding one that i can afford at this point in my life as im only 17. Even though i have a job money is limeted. My two options would be to keep my truck and give it a paint job. Im thinking white or black. Or sell my truck and be without a vehicle until i can find a 92-96 i can afford. In my situation what would you guys do? If i were to paint it what color should i go with? If i sell what is a fair price to ask? Thanks
A decent paint job will cost about 8x what that truck is worth now, and probably 4x what it would be worth with a GOOD paint job. Putting a cheap paint job on it will REDUCE its value - to you, or to any potential buyer. So you should put that out of your mind. It's a common old pickup truck - not a rare or valuable collectible. If it runs well, KEEP it running well by following the maintenance schedule using only top-quality parts & recommended procedures. You might want a Ferrari, but that doesn't mean you should sell this truck & wait until you can afford one. You need to learn how to drive (it's a LOT more than just steering & braking), and how to maintain a vehicle before you start sinking thou$and$ into one. If you can keep that thing running for a few years, you'll be in a MUCH-better position to buy, repair, & maintain any future vehicle, without having to pay nearly as much for professionals to do minor work. That will open up the option of shopping for vehicles with minor problems, which GREATLY reduces their prices.
I'd seriously consider removing that plastic crap screwed to the body, but ONLY if you can repair the screw holes (and any rust that has already occurred), and get some touch-up paint that will come close to matching.
That body-style of F-series is known to have quite a few problems, so you need to learn about them, and start addressing them before they cause it to break down on you. Click this, read the caption, and put ALL the truck's details into your signature:
As an owner of a red truck, I can tell you that you would be amazed what can be accomplished with a good dual action polisher, some quality rubbing compound, and polish. Maybe $150 total cost.
Then save up money and buy a good 94-95 when it comes along.
Here is the first pic I ever posted in this forum, after a few days of blood sweat and tears with the paint. It hadn't been washed, waxed, etc in over 10 years. I didn't even have the DA then, just rags and compound and time.

Thanks for the advise, I have done all the work myself thus far so that is not an issue. I have owned a hanes book since i got the truck and it has been very helpful as i learn. I realise the cost of a good paintjob, I was thinking of painting it myself, nothing perfect but at least it would be one color.
I respectfully decline to remove my accesories though. I searched for my racerback forever!

focus on keeping the truck running and in good enough shape to pass inspection..NOT making it look good, you can save that paint, it will take a day of hard work but you can save it
theres nothing anybody has said that I disagree with. I think you can save that paint too if you want to invest the time, which shouldn't be more than a day or two
