Smog Pump Filter/Silencer
4. Line the bottom of the drilled pvc cap with a good grade screen material that won't deteriorate, insert the 4" pvc or abs that you drilled the 1/2" holes in and line it with the same screen. Here's where my camera screwed up, so I'll have to jump to the finished product or go out and take it apart and retake the pics, so here it is.

5. After you've lined the housing with the screen, insert your filter material. I have used polyester filling on many filter projects, mainly aquarium products, and it does an awesome job and filters very fine particles when packed correctly. I packed this housing to what I'd call a medium pack. I wanted it to breathe well, but be packed enough that I did not have to worry about any of the filler getting past the screen.
6. I did the 'ole smoke test........fire up the truck, fire up a smoke, and made sure that the new filter is sucking in the smoke like a smokeless ash tray. It works well! Test drive, no issues, no difference what so ever in the way the engine runs, no codes, Etc. So far so good. If I run into any future issues, I'll post them up asap.
Making room for future "STUFF"! This is where the old filter/silencer sat. By the way, the new DIY filter silencer is 100% serviceable unlike the original and takes about 5 minutes to clean and replace filter media.

I'm so confused. mr7confused is mr7confused.
That muffler thing exhales? inhales? what is it for? I mean I know the smog pump but why does the smog pump need all this bs at the end of the tunnel?

It inhales. Basically just a filter for the smog pump to keep dirt and debris out of it like any good air compressor. It also makes a little pulsating noise while doing so and the filter and housing helps muffle that noise.
