Default sliding window replacement

Yeah, so my sliding rear window randomly exploded in my garage? I can't figure this out cause it was locked in my attached garage today and I was home all day. The glass went into the bed so it must have been pushed from the inside. I know we had a 40 degree change in temp today but my mustang still has all its windows? I find all this strange, well anyway whats involved with replacing this, is it the whole unit. 91 extend cab minus a trans.

Yes, you will have to change the whole thing. I don't think you can get just pieces. Get the new window and install the gasket on it. Put a small diameter rope in the channel of the gasket that goes on the cab. Place the window/gasket assembly in place pushing the lower part of the gasket onto the cab and making sure the rope hangs out the bottom also. Have someone push the window tight against the cab while you pull the rope out from the inside, which will pull the gasket around the flange of the cab.

Should I use wd-40 or lithium grease on the opening? I can't believe how cheap these windows can be on car-part.com. I was thinking of using the solid window though, to me it has a cleaner look.

Use a silicone grease. I used to put windows in cucvs in the military and used a lotion hand soap with some rtv silicon for sealing the glass into the rubber gasket. The soap was easily washed off and did not degrade the gasket like a lot of greases or wd40 will.

hey yeah that makes sense. The oils would destroy the rubber after awhile. Thanks for the tip!
