Slave cyl??
Ok bit if a dumb question and sort of in regards to my other post.
Anyway I had a local auto parts shop order me a clutch kit and a rear main seal.
The slave cylinder in my truck is shot.
I do have another tranny for the same truck with a good slave cylinder.
From the advice given in my other post a new slave cyl sounds like a good idea.
I’m not trying to be cheap……. Even though I prob am.
Is there any way I can test a slave cylinder?
And the big way out there question……… is it reasonably possible to switch to an external slave????
Im pretty sure the mid 90s slaves are assessable….. I think…..
Anyway thanks for reading my post.

Without being installed the slave isn't compressed, but I guess you could still hook it up off the tranny and press the pedal to see if it leaks. The only way to switch to an external slave is to swap the transmission to one that has one. The 4 speeds have externals and so does the heavy duty ZF 5 speed.
Thanks for the reply Sean.
I did drive the truck that the tranny came from,
It worked good and the slave does look dry. I may give it a shot.
I may look at that other tranny if the truck makes it through another clutch.

I just lost my slave for the second time, first was at 75K miles and the second was at 132K miles. From what everyone tells me, the internal slave is the biggest problem with the M5R2. I have the 4.2, which has a smaller diameter clutch disk but from what research shows, one slave works for a good range of I4's, I6's, V6's, and V8's that Ford made. My biggest question should I take the time to have the flywheel on the 4.2 machined to accept the bigger pressure plate of the 300? Or should I see if a NV4500 will bolt up to the 4.2 with a B5.9 bell. I don't know if the second can be done, its a question since a M5R2 will bolt up to a B series engine...but do the blocks actually match?
