Default Should i?

I know this is an f150 forum, but I was wondering if anybody could help me with some questions I had about a 1996 f250 I was thinking about buying. It has the 5.8 with about 186k miles. Not much rust, and he is asking 3,000 obo. I was wondering if it is a good deal, and any common/major problems about these that I could know that would help me. Also what is the average mpg for the 5.8?

Any help is very much appreciated. Thank you for your time.

the 351 in an extended cab long bed 250 is underpowered for anything more then driving down the road IMO. with 186k miles 3k is a little high for me, but i would need to see the body. check out leaf spring hangers, rubber hoses, all the front end and rear leaf spring bushings. leaking fluids obviously. remove the oil fill cap and start the truck and look for smoke. basic stuff really.

I would disagree with it being under powered. I have a long bed extended cab f150 4x4 with the 351 rolling 33 inch tall tires on stock gears and it still pulls hard and lights my tires up. Imo.....I would imagine the 250 has lower gearing And a better tranny....that 351 should scream if it ain't tired. And my 351 ran for 330,000 before I put a new block in. And I only did that cuz I had the cash to do so. It burnt a lil oil here and there but that's about it. Great motor if u ask me

my dad has a 92 F250 with a 5.8 and a 5spd and he hauls hay with it all the time. 14 bales on a trailer so i'm pretty sure they have all the power you need unless you do major hauling

I should say I want one in the 8-9 generation. I have a 2001 f250 but only two wheel drive.
