Default Shorten the frame?

Has anyone done this before or been a helper on such a project? I have always wanted my 4 wheel drive long bed to either be a short bed or a stubby. Making it more like a Jeep you know? Not only lighter but shorter wheel base, making it more maneuverable. Even if I don't cut the bed down if i make it a stubby, I may just make a role cage like the baja trucks get.

Come on guys, I'm not a fab tech. But I can follow instructions, read a manual, and do math very well.

Or you could buy a truck with no engine/tranny/transfer case that is already an RCSB and swap in your stuff. Should be easier than adpating a frame

I've done frame chops and rebuilt them for flatbeds and tool trucks, but not to convert from a long bed to a shorted. For one long bed and short bed frames line up differently, you would have to cut the frame off from the back of the cab and weld a back section from a shortbox frame. A real pain in the *** and really not recommended or even worth it.

Either get a new shortbox truck to transplant on or buy a Bronco.

Maybe remove the bed and do a tubular cage in the rear. Kind of like a pre runner but with out the bed. Maybe mount a tire in the center and use the top bar to mount lights on.

I see what you're asking. It would be cool and fun to do I think. There is an arch that sits above the axle, cut right before the arch and tuck it as far as driveshaft angles will allow you to do. But don't forget you need a different driveshaft, customs fuel and brake lines, and find someplace for a gas tank, and any electrical stuff needs to be worked on accordingly. I suggest a diamond plate home built flatbed, with a 25 gallon fuel cell, winch, storage bin for chains. Mount the winch like you would a 5 th wheel hitch

That mini Chevy is bad ***. Nothing like what I'm planning.

And for all the haters that have posted prior, its possible. Ford-forum.com a guy cut 16" from infront of the axle. And remember from the original post who says I'm even gonna put a bed on. So I don't give 2 ****s if a short bed and a long bed bolt to the frame differently.

Don't hate. I was asking for advisors not discouragers. You that wanna shoot the idea down don't even reply again. We don't need you on this thread. Like sylver91 and mustanggt90210 (I guess he thinks he's vanilla ice or something)

You could do what is called "bobbing" the bed and take the length out behind the rear wheels. This is done fairly often with Toyotas that are used for rock crawling for a better departure angle.

Here's a Ram bobbed 10": http://www.dieseltruckresource.com/d...s-t164801.html

bobbing would be your best bet

now getting a short bed then bobbing it would be the way to go if you want wrangler size

Whoa there, i wasn't hating on you, i was simply giving you a heads up of the problems your gonna have if you take on a project like this. Im just telling you its allot of work and something i wouldn't suggest for safety and budget reasons.

Its you're truck go ahead and do what you want to it, just prepare yourself for problems ahead, be easier to maybe show a pic of what you're looking to do.

And P.S

No offense, but If you post a thread based on wanting ideas and opinions, expect to get them in all forms.
