Default shifts hard sometimes!

My '95 f-150 4.9 auto shifts hard sometimes and then other times it shifts fine?
It has 282,000 miles on it!

Fluid and filter change about 24,000mi. ago, fluid level is good nice red no smell! A few years ago the trans. was slipping, I was told it could be the MAF sensor but I can't find it. I'm not even sure if this truck has one?

I'm not sure but, it seems when I first start it and let it idle down completely before putting it in gear it will shift fine. But if I put it in gear before letting it idle down all the way (completely) that's when it shifts hard. It takes a long time for this truck to idle down even when warmed up? Thanks.

If it is the Maf sensor it will be between the box your air filter is in and the throttle body if I'm not mistaken it should Be in the two black tubes on top of your engine

Yeah, that's where I thought it would be, nothing but the two tubes between the filter box and throttle body! According to my online parts supplier there is a MAF sensor for that year truck, and I saw a picture of it, definitely nothing like it between FB and TB. That's why I was wondering if it had one? '95 maybe the change up year? I don't know?

On normal driving, my 4R70W shifts smoothly.
If I punch it, it slams into gear on up shifts.

Run Error code scans. An out of range TPS sensor can cause that, or you may turn up a Transmission code. Absent of those codes showing up, I'd add a can of "Transtune" to your tranny fluid. If you have internal flow restriction, you'll see/ feel improvement w/ in 100 miles after application.

Sorry I haven't got back sooner, been trying to retrieve codes. I have a autoxray2500 scanner but it keeps telling me that the cable is not connected. Trying to figure that out! Meanwhile I ran the koeo and koer self test, got no codes other than 111 system checks ok. I'm pretty sure I did it correctly. This truck does not have a MAF sensor, so I ruled that out. I'm now thinking maybe a vacuum leak or the VSS? idk. I'm still going to get it scanned just for a second opinion, but its been shifting fine lately!!! Thanks everyone.
