Default Shifter ****

I've tried to search this forum and google and have gotten a few answers, but were for other generation trucks, so here it goes.

I got a couple accessories for X-Mas and one of them happens to be an 8 ball shifter ****; real original, I know lol. But how do I get the old one off? I've tried to pop the top off to see if I can get to a bolt or nut of some sort, but no luck and there isn't a little screw or anything near/ at the bottom of the **** either, so I'm assuming it is pressed on to the lever. Or do I have to try harder to try and get the top off. I didn't want to damage it as I'd like to keep it for down the road, if it's ever needed

Mine was pressed/glued on but would just fall off by the time I got it. I think you could just pull and twist on it to get it off. I wouldn't use channel locks because I'd hate to mar the **** so I couldn't reuse it. Maybe some grippy rubber pads or gloves and a hair dryer or something to warm it up.

Yeah, but I am just that way. I've got tons of parts from about everything under the sun that I don't throw out because I might need them or could use them someday. Really takes up a lot of space. He did mention he might want it later down the road.

Mine was glued but it came off a few times, the shaft has threads but the **** doesnt. Used supper glue and a soft faced hammer to get it back on. Try heating it and twisting it back and forth with a pipe wrench if your not gonna use it again.

Next tool to add to my arsenal will be a heat gun. I don't have a hair dryer, so.... ya....

I'd like to keep all of the original parts that I take off and/ or replace If I do plan to do a restore I will have what once used to be in/ on the truck

So wrap the **** in duct tape and twist it off with the pipe wrench then it wont damage it.
